Read James McCallum's (Rapha Condor Sharp) special recce report of the 100 mile sportive. A great preview of what to expect this year.
The Scottish Bike Show Sportive is Scotland's newest mass participation cycle event - 'A Tour of the Lochs and Trossachs' - with two challenging routes through the most stunning countryside of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, on Sunday 15th April 2012.
Both routes will test all round biking skills with some tough long climbs and fast descents taking in some of Scotland's most beautiful glen, loch and mountain landscapes en route.
There is a 100 mile Sportive ride and a 65 mile Challenge ride. Both routes will be fully signed and marshalled.
Starting at Balloch Castle on the shores of Loch Lomond both rides immediately head out onto country roads. Riders will head north east then north north east with some testing climbs towards Aberfoyle; and continuing up to Loch Katrine. At this point the shorter Challenge route splits off west and tours around Loch Katrine before heading back via Stronachlacher; passing Loch Chon and Loch Ard. It then turns back towards Balloch Castle and the finish.
At Loch Katrine the Sportive route splits eastwards heading towards Kilmahog. The riders then head north passing Loch Lubnaig, Lochearnhead and Loch Earn, before heading west passing Loch Lubhair and Loch Dochart to Crianlarich. After Crianlarich the route heads south passing Loch Lomond, Loch Long and Glenmallan, Auchenvennel and Dumfin before the final run back to Balloch Castle.
